Major cattle feedlot in Alberta closing operations

One of the biggest cattle feedlots in Canada will be suspending its operations after selling off its herd. Western Feedlots of Alberta started in 1958 and blames poor economic and political conditions for its downfall.

The company says its shareholders chose the move as there’s currently a high-risk, low-return environment in cattle ownership. Alberta-fed cattle prices of 125 dollars per a hundred pounds is down 30 per cent from a year ago.

Western Feedlots will continue farming operations.
