City opens applications for Neighbourhood Outdoor Rink Program

The City of Grande Prairie is opening applications for residents to build and maintain skating rinks in their neighbourhoods. Those approved will get the supplies to build and take care of a small rink in a park near their homes for the winter.

There must be five volunteers committed to building and taking care of the rink, and applicants have to specify where the rink is built. The city will provide training on installing the rink, and how to do monthly hazard assessments. Rinks are recommended to be built before there is snow on the ground and the ground is frozen.

The deadline to apply to be part of the program is December 15th, but those who are interested are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
