Residents across Alberta who have been displaced due to a wildfire for seven consecutive days or more will soon be able to apply for a one-time payment from the provincial government to help while they’re away from home.
Eligible evacuees will receive $1,250 per adult and an additional $500 per dependent child under 18 years. This means, for example, that an evacuated family of four will receive $3,500.
The province says the money will be sent via e-transfer up to 24 hours after applications are complete, with those unable to receieve an e-transfer are urged to call 310-4455 for assistance and to make alternate payment arrangements.
Anyone who is eligible can apply starting 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 9th, at the Province of Alberta website.
