UPDATE: Man in custody following downtown police incident

UPDATE: As of 8:30 p.m. police say the incident has been resolved. One man is in custody and charges are pending.

People are being asked to avoid the area of 101 Avenue between 101 Street and 102 Street downtown Grande Prairie. As of 7 p.m., the Grande Prairie RCMP says it is responding to an incident, without giving further details.

There is a heavy police presence and no access is being given to the public at this time. Mounties say there is no immediate threat to the public.

In addition to avoiding the area, the public is asked not to share photos of responding officers on social media until the incident is over. An update is expected at a later time.
