Mounties in Grande Prairie are warning the public about an increase of reports of gold jewellery scams in the area. The Grande Prairie RCMP says scam typically involves one or two people approaching someone in a parking lot, saying they have a problem, like a broken down car or possessions taken away, and they need money.
The fraudsters will then offer to sell the person their gold jewellery, like a chain, necklace or ring, for cash. Once the scammers have the money from their victim, they leave. When the victim eventually attempts to sell the gold to get their money back, they find out the gold is fake and have been scammed.
Police warn anyone if they are approached by someone trying to sell gold jewellery, walk away and call the authorities immediately to report the incident.
