2023 horse racing season starts Saturday at Evergreen Park

Every weekend starting July 8th until August 27th the horses will be running the track at Evergreen Park.

There are 16 days of racing on this year’s calendar, with 20 races on the stakes schedule. These races are said to be highlighted at J.D.A. Raceway on July 9th and 23rd with several Bank of America competitions including the John Deere Juvenile Challenge, Adequan Derby Challenge and Bank of America Challenge, July 30th with the GP Derby Races, and August 27th with Mr. Mike’s Paint the Park Purple Race for the Cure.

Along with the stakes races, there will be several events highlighted throughout the season including the Wiener Dog Derby on July 23rd and Derby Day on July 30th. According to Evergreen Park those going to the races on Derby Day can take part in “a fancy brunch – dressing dress up in their finest Derby attire and win prizes.” This year the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum Dino Derby has been tentatively scheduled for the last day of races on August 27th.

The start time is 1:15 p.m. every race day, and admission is free.
