Wildfire smoke prompts special air quality statement for Peace River region

A special air quality statement has been issued for the Peace River – Fairview – High Prairie – Manning region. Environment Canada says wildfire smoke is causing locally poor air quality and reduced visibility in northern portions of the province.

People in the region are encouraged to limit their exposure to smoke, especially those who are at higher risk of experiencing health problems. That includes people with lung disease like asthma or heart disease, older adults, children, pregnant people, and people who work outdoors.

The Peace River Area Monitoring Program lists the air quality health index there as 7 or high risk this morning.
