Grande Prairie, Peace River regions under severe thunderstorm watch

The Grande Prairie and Peace River regions could be in for a storm Monday. A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the Grande Prairie – Beaverlodge – Valleyview and Peace River – Fairview – High Prairie – Manning regions.

Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rain.

“Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop early this afternoon and persist into the evening hours.”

People in the area are reminded that severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes and heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
