Those looking to enjoy the last few weekends of summer in the Grande Prairie Forest Area are urged to keep safety top of mind as the wildfire danger level is at high.
Alberta Wildfire says increased fire behaviour is expected in the coming days in parts of the forest area thanks to a lack of rainfall across the region. Anyone out in the bush, or on the trails is being reminded that dry conditions make it much easier for fires to ignite and spread.
Since the turn of the year, 64 wildfires in the Grande Prairie Forest Area have burned nearly 141,400 hectares.
A fire advisory remains in effect for the Grande Prairie Forest Area, but, despite the advisory, current burn permits remain valid, but new permit requests will be dealt with on a case by case basis.
