Canada Post worker bitten by dog

Dog owners are being reminded to keep their dogs inside or put away after a Grande Prairie Canada Post delivery agent needed medical attention for a dog bite sustained while delivering packages.

According to Canada Post, the dog chased the employee, who was making deliveries on 79th Avenue. Director of Media Relations Philipe Legault says following the incident bylaw officers were contacted and asked to open an investigation.

“Mail delivery has been stopped to the dog owner’s address and temporarily suspended to nearby homes on 79 Avenue during the investigation and internal health and safety review. Affected customers have been notified of the situation and where to pick up their mail in the meantime.”

Legault says delivery to the suspended area will return as soon as it is considered safe.

Canada Post is also advising dog owners on the best practices when it comes to mail delivery and their pets. Some tips include being careful when answering the door to not let a dog out, keeping the dog secured away from the front door or mailbox, and ensuring all fences, gates and doors are closed.
