The Grovedale Fire Department is now using its new command unit, which is equipped with everything from a full power generator to a coffee machine to assist the firefighters in disaster situations.
Manager of Protective Services for the M-D of Greenview Jeff Francis explains it’s like a home away from home during rescue calls.
“It’s basically to support those volunteer fire fighters, especially in the winter system, and the whole area. It’s such a vast area and if there’s a big incident going on, to have an incident command post out in the middle of nowhere, this would support those kinds of incidents very well.”
Greenview Council purchased the vehicle for $398,000, and is considered a good investment as it will serve a vast area in many different situations.
It is the first of its kind in North America.
