Runner wards off cougars southeast of Grande Prairie

An Edmonton runner was able to narrowly escape a pair of cougars while training southeast of Grande Prairie Tuesday.

Donny Stone tells the CBC that he was running near his work camp 100 kilometres out of the city, when he saw two cougars on the trail. They moved into the bush when they same him, but Stone was prepared with bear banger and bear spray, which he used when one animal charged him.

He caught the whole thing on his cell phone camera, and the video can be found below. Both cougars were scared off and Stone was able to get back to camp safely.
