McMan Foster Care is “urgently” seeking foster parents in Grande Prairie as a result of an influx of children in care, specifically in Northern Alberta.
Communications and Engagement Coordinator for McMan Youth, Family, and Community Services Jacquie DuVal explains her team is actively looking for families to support 25 children in care as soon as possible.
“We are an organization originally in Edmonton, but we’re expanding our services to Northern Alberta, and there is a great need for beds in the north,” she says. “We need to fill more than 20 beds before March of 2025.”
According to McMan, the need stems from the notion that when there are not enough foster caregivers in an area, children are forced to move out of their communities to a location with more bed spaces available. As a result, children lose their friends, schools, and family connections when they move. In response, McMan states their goal is to keep children close to their biological families and in their schools.
DuVal says her organization is looking for multiple families to address the need and interested individuals are encouraged to reach out to McMan online or by calling (780)-453-0417.
