City of GP offering free community sandbox service to prevent slippery sidewalks

The City of Grande Prairie is offering its free community sandbox for residents to use to keep sidewalks and driveways safe and slip-free throughout the winter season.

Transportation Director for the City of Grande Prairie Wade Nellis says the City is glad to provide another option for residents to continue working together to keep sidewalks safe.

We appreciate residents’ efforts to clear their sidewalks and use sand to help improve accessibility and safety for everyone in the community,” he says.

The sandbox is located at the City Service Centre near the south end of 112th Street and residents can use the service by bringing up to two, five-gallon containers to the City Service Centre, collecting sand for use at home, and ensuring containers are suitable for transportation.
