Nearly every Grande Prairie skating rink open for public use

If you haven’t made any plans to have some wintertime fun this year, good news, as nearly every rink in Grande Prairie has opened up for skating.

The City announced yesterday that Crystal Park rink has opened once again, meaning residents have several options to choose from for skating and hockey.

As of January 10th, the rinks at Alexander Forbes, Crystal Park, Hillside, I.V. Macklin, J.C. Mackie Park, the MCC Skating Oval, Montrose, Muskoseepi Pond, Swanavon, and Parkside are all open for business, while the Aquatera Community Skating Oval is closed to the public for now.

Not all rinks are created equal, however. Hockey enthusiasts can only play on select rinks as Alexander Forbes, Crystal Park, Hillside, Montrose, and Swanavon are the only ones available for Canada’s pastime.

Some other skating options are available for residents to use, including the Muskoseepi Park Pavilion skating pond, the Dave Barr Arena for indoor skating and hockey, and the Design Works Centre for indoor skating and shinny.

Residents can find a map of open rinks, along with tobogganing hills here.
