City of GP launches new online collision reporting tool

The City of Grande Prairie has launched a new online reporting tool for drivers involved in a collision within the city.

The city, along with Accident Support Services International Ltd. launched “Start From Home,” which allows drivers to report a collision directly to the Collision Reporting Centre from a smartphone or computer.

Drivers can now visit the collision reporting section on the city’s website, before clicking on “Start From Home” under the CRC information tab, fill out the required information, and provide a written statement from their home, vehicle, or while in line at the CRC. Once completed, you will be given a reference number to bring into the CRC at the Eastlink Centre within 24 hours so documents can be verified.

GPES Managing Director Helen Napier says the new initiative comes from a desire to steamline the process of reporting collisions, and Accident Support Services International Manager Lisa Schettle says the concept has already started to bear fruit after just a few weeks.

The City of Grande Prairie and ASSI value being able to provide an even more convenient and streamlined process for collision reporting with the addition of Start From Home,” Napier says. “In the weeks since we began using Start From Home at the Collision Reporting Centre, we have already noticed shorter lines and reduced wait times,” Shettle adds. 

Officials say the ultimate goal of the new initiative is to reduce wait times by allowing drivers to complete up to 85 per cent of a collision report ahead of visiting the CRC.
