Man with terminal cancer on his way home from Grande Prairie

A Nova Scotia man working in Grande Prairie will get to spend his last few months at home. Cameron Conrad was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in November, and by that point the disease had already spread to his hip, rib and lung.

He’s spent his time since at a Calgary hospital and has been given only a few months to live. Conrad is in too much pain to take a commercial flight back to the Maritimes, and the cost to be medevaced would be $47,000 – too much for his family to afford.

That’s when his sister Juanita Martin turned to crowdsourcing, making a GoFundMe page to cover the costs. In just 18 days it has far surpassed its goal, raising more than $52,000. That’s enough to bring Conrad home, and an update posted Wednesday say’s he’ll be back by dinner tonight.
