Suspicious man with gun leads to Hillside School lockdown

UPDATE: Grande Prairie RCMP says it was a man walking around with what looked like a gun that led to the lockdown of Hillside Community School this morning. They were called to the area of 106th Avenue and 92-B Street around 11:20 a.m.

The school was locked down as a precaution as officers searched the building and the area surrounding it with the help of Police Dog Services. At this point, mounties say there is no risk to student and staff, as well as the general public.

The school was locked down for about 30 minutes and was then put into hold and secure. That has been lifted as well.

Hillside Community School is currently in a hold and secure due to something RCMP are responding to in the neighbourhood. The lockdown has been lifted, meaning students can move about in the building, but access is still restricted.

Parents are asked not to go to the school as they won’t be allowed inside. If they have questions they can call the school’s general line. All students are safe and accounted for. We’ll update as we learn more.
