A furnace scam that’s prompted a warning from Calgary Police Service has also been seen in Grande Prairie.
Officers say salespeople are going door-to-door claiming they’re building inspectors that have to be allowed to look at the home’s furnace or else face a fine. Once inside, they claim to find problems and aggressively try to sell the homeowner a new furnace or hot water tank.
Service Alberta says it’s heard similar complaints here in the Swan City. A spokesperson says in some cases, they say the inspections are government-sanctioned. Residents are reminded they should ask for ID before letting someone into their home.
