UPDATE: Elderly man killed in Highway 43 collision with gravel hauler

UPDATE #2: Grande Prairie Rural RCMP report the 76 year old man from Debolt has succumbed to his injuries. He was the only person in a slow moving pickup truck that was hit from behind by a gravel truck and trailer travelling at the speed limit. An investigation continues.

UPDATE: A 76 year old man has been transported by ambulance to the QEII Hospital in critical, life threatening condition. Fatima Khawaja with STARS Air Ambulance Communications says the collision was between a gravel hauler and a car.

While STARS was called to the scene, it was determined that ground transportation would be a better method for the patient. We don’t have an update on his condition or any other people injured.

A serious collision has been reported on Highway 43 east of Bezanson. Traffic is reportedly closed east of Range Road 41, but a caller to 2day FM says you can detour using Secondary Highway 670.

STARS Air Ambulance was called to the scene just after 12:45 p.m. There’s reportedly a truck in the ditch.

We’ll update when we learn more.
