UPDATE: CN freight train carrying sand derails near Grande Cache

CN Rail has confirmed a northbound train carrying sand derailed multiple cars in a remote area north of Grande Cache around 8 p.m. Saturday night.

No injuries have been reported and there are no environmental issues so far. No dangerous goods were involved.

Crews will spend the day today removing the derailed cars and repairing the damage to the rail line. The cause is still under investigation.

A CN Rail fright train has detailed near Grande Cache. The incident happened Saturday but few details have been released so far.

The Transportation Safety Board has sent a team of investigators to the area to assess the situation and gather information. We’ll update when we learn more.
