Partnership in the works for industrial park

The M.D. of Greenview, County, and City of Grande Prairie are looking at the development of an industrial park. Chief Administrative Officer with the M.D. Mike Haugen says the preliminary plans have the municipal governments working together. They are looking for a place that could accommodate large industry like petrochemical plants.

“These are the large additional processing plants and secondary processing. It ties into the provincial government’s strategy too of wanting to develop some of our resources here in Alberta instead of sending them elsewhere to be converted into other products.”

There are no set timelines yet but Haugen says there are plans to make some plans more formal in the new year. A location has also not been chosen yet.

The CAO says there are many steps to go through before the project gets underway including First Nation consultations and picking a place for park to go.
