UPDATE #2: Grande Prairie Transit is back up and running.
UPDATE: City firefighters also say they’re experiencing an increase in 9-1-1 calls due to crashes and falls from the freezing rain. They ask people to only travel if necessary and to use extreme caution when doing so.
Freezing rain in Grande Prairie this morning has caused roads in and around the city to be extremely icy. RCMP say they have responded to several collisions, including one involving a school bus.

Police are asking everyone on the road to drive to the conditions, giving extra room for vehicles in front of them in case it’s icy. All city buses are not running as well.
Please be advised that City Transit buses are not running due to road conditions. Please check back for any updates.
