A decision by a local children’s play place to serve alcohol has come under criticism. While some people support the move, Luv 2 Play Vice President Jason Caricato says they’ve seen several negative comments on social media.
“About 85 per cent of the people are for it and about 15 per cent are against it. Luv 2 Play listens to Grande Prairie, so we are going to listen and we’re going to take totals, and we’re going to take more voting, and then we’re going to make a decision, but as of right now the whole project is on hold.”
Caricato says they first applied for a liquor licence when customers said they’d be interested in having a drink while watching their children play. The plan was to have a one per hour, two-drink limit, monitored using a non-transferable bracelet system.
“So if they want to purchase an alcoholic beverage, they would get a bracelet. As soon as we pull the tab off, it allows them one more drink. Pull the second tab off and that’s it; no more drinks for that person. So, it was going to be carefully watched and guarded, and now, of course, there’s a whole bunch of other opinions involved that we’re listening to.”
Luv 2 Play will be looking for feedback from its customers through its Facebook page before making a final decision. The indoor playground opened in the fall of 2015.
