Dog dies after fall through Peace River ice

With the recent warm weather, it is not safe to be out on the ice.

RCMP had to help a group of kids get off the ice flow in Peace River on Thursday, and this morning a dog fell through. A resident noticed and called emergency services, but police and the fire department weren’t able to rescue the pup.

People in the region are reminded that there is no safe place on the Peace River right now as the ice is melting and the current underneath is extremely dangerous. Constable Adam George argues you’re not only risking your life but the life and safety of the first responders called to rescue you.
