Smaller Clairmont sewer rate increase approved

The utility rate hike for Clairmont won’t be as high this year as expected. A 19.4 per cent wastewater increase was originally proposed by Aquatera for 2017, followed by another 6.6 per cent in 2018. That’s on top of the 2.3 per cent increases on water both years.

County of Grande Prairie council has now approved a 9.9 per cent jump this year, followed by an even larger one next year to spread it out more evenly. A typical resident with a with a $51 sewer bill will see an extra charge of $4 and change a month instead of more than $8.50.

The major increase is to cover the cost of connecting the Clairmont Lagoon with Grande Prairie’s system.
