Alberta Transportation has decided to close a lane of Highway 2 near Dunvegan. They’ve been monitoring the area just south of the Peace River since a slide in early February, and have decided to close the southbound climbing lane as a safety precaution.
Less than a kilometre of the highway is affected, and one lane southbound and the northbound lane will stay open while repairs are being done. Over the summer, crews will be doing a minor realignment of the road, building a retaining wall, paving and reclaiming the old section.
The realigned highway is expected to reopen this fall, but the retaining wall and some finishing touches will be done next summer. The closure should begin this week.
