Fish and Wildlife officers say a driver has been charged after getting their truck stuck in the bed of the Wapiti River. The incident happened at the Magoo’s Landing boat launch, where people are allowed to drive their vehicles into the river to launch a boat.
However, Alberta Fish and Wildlife Enforcement alleges this driver wasn’t doing so, and instead drove around the cement blocks that cordon off the boat launch area. When they drove into the river, they got stuck in the bed and had to be pulled out by another truck.
In a social media post, the province explains that the rules for vehicle use around waterways are meant to protect fish habitat. The driver will have to make a mandatory court appearance. Similar violations can be reported to the 24 hour Report-A-Poacher hotline at 1-800-642-3800.
