Crystal Ridge house fire causes $200K in damage

An estimated $200,000 in damage was done to a home in Crystal Ridge Thursday afternoon. The Grande Prairie Fire Department responded to reports of a house fire on 96B Street just before 3 p.m.

When they arrived, they found two people at the house, and a fire in the basement. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control quickly, but the rest of the house suffered smoke and heat damage.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation, but the fire department is urging residents to make sure they have a working smoke detector on every level of their home and to practice an escape plan. No injuries have been reported.
