Local women’s ball hockey teams will be vying for first place at the Wildrose provincials in Grande Prairie this weekend.
Six of the teams in the A, C, and D divisions are from Grande Prairie, with Edmonton and Calgary filling out the rest of the slots.
Games will be held at both the County Sportsplex and Dave Barr Arena, and Sportsplex General Manager Ramona Rollins hopes to see a big spectator turnout.
“The more people we have out the better, especially for the women and the younger girls that have never played the sport before, because hockey and ball hockey are growing very quickly with the female population. I think seeing the girls play and be at this level will inspire a lot of them to at least give it a try.”
The event is free to attend, and the Sportsplex Lounge will be open all weekend.
For the men, their provincials will be in Grande Prairie August 1st to 4th.
