Both the city and county councils were sworn in yesterday making all of the vote counts official. 8 incumbent councillors welcomed 1 new face to the team, Linda Waddy from Ward 7 beat Arthur Amendt with 68% of the vote.
Ward 3 representative and last term’s Reeve Leanne Beaupre was again selected to serve in the Reeve role. She says a lot has been made out of the tension between the city and county.
“As a group we get along fine. Outside, socially and everything else we do we still get along fine. Is there going to be a difference of opinion? Absolutely. There’s always a difference of opinion. If there wasn’t they wouldn’t need all of us, right?”
She also says continuing to develop that regional partnership is key. They have made strides on some aspects already, including regional recreational plans and waste water management.
“Transportation I think is the one that is going to be… it’s somewhat of an enigma because transportation to rural municipalities is quite a bit different then to an urban municipality
Beaupre says she is looking forward to see what new ideas can be sparked by the new faces on city council.
5 new members were sworn in on city council including Eunice Friesen, Dylan Bressey, Yad Minhas, Clyde Blackburn and Wade Pilat. They joined incumbents Jackie Clayton, Chris Thiessen and Kevin O’Toole. Mayor Bill Given was also sworn in.
