Alberta Party board elects two people from Grande Prairie

The Alberta Party is looking towards future growth and building their brand leading up to the next election. At last weekend’s AGM in Red Deer two people from Grande Prairie were elected to the board, Jackie Clayton and Conrad Guay. Guay also serves as the Northwest Regional Organizer for the party, he says they were over capacity this year in Red Deer.

“We booked the event six months in advance and weren’t expecting that many people. We filled up and actually had a side room for voting as well to accommodate the extra people.”

He says they were just shy of 400 people in attendance which when compared with 2016 is about 700 per cent growth. When asked about Greg Clark stepping down just before the meeting Guay said there were mixed emotions.

“The decision was made so that we can continue on the roll that we’re [on] right now and get some excitement going. Also to allow for the current and new members to have some say in the leadership leading up to the next election.”

The meeting included the election of half their board and a couple constitutional amendments. Guay says their board is made up of people from all parties and even some who have not been party members before. He says they are getting a lot of interest from the Grande Prairie area especially since the formation of the UCP’s.

“Definitely the lack of ideology is something that really attracts people. It’s a party that takes from all sides of the spectrum so that we’re not rigid in any sense other than our defense of people’s rights and fiscal responsibility.”

The Alberta party will be hosting an information in Grande Prairie Thursday.
