Free concert added to Bear Creek Folk Festival

For the first time, a free outdoor concert will kick off this year’s Bear Creek Folk Festival.

The concert will be held outside of Better Than Fred’s on 101 Street in Grande Prairie on August 16th at 4:30. Festival Producer Sarah Card hopes to reach more people in the community by moving part of the festival downtown.

“I’m really excited to be able to bring that extra element to downtown and to incorporate more of the city into our event because our event really does strive to be a part of the Grande Prairie community,” Card says.

The free event will feature local artists as well as acts from places like eastern Canada and the States who will also be performing at the festival. However, Card says the addition of the extra concert doesn’t mean people should skip the full event.

“It definitely doesn’t replace the festival. You still have to come to the festival to see the main event but we really wanted to engage more of Grande Prairie and involve ourselves a little more with other parts of town.”

This is the third year for the three day festival which runs from August 17th to 19th on Borstad Hill in Muskoseepi Park.
