People living in Sexsmith will be paying more for their garbage to be picked up. Town council has approved increasing the garbage and recycling fees to cover costs from its change to a new contractor.
Prairie Disposal started collecting for the town on January 4th, and the current charges don’t cover the bills. Instead of increasing the mill rate or using reserve funds, the rate for garbage pickup will go from $12 to $17 and the fee for recycling will increase from $6 to $6.60.
The increase will take effect in April 2019, which is also when Aquatera is upping its water and sewer rates. A notice will be sent out with billing this month.
Prairie Disposal previously collected garbage and recycling for Sexsmith, but Ever Green Ecological Services took over the contract at the beginning of 2014.
