Local woman wins Governor General’s medal for second time

A woman from Grande Prairie has been given one of the highest academic honours for the second time in her life. Katie Boisvert recently graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology also picking up the Governor General’s Silver medal.

“[It’s] awarded to basically the top three undergraduates of the University of Alberta for this year based on top academic average. It’s pretty exciting to be awarded that and having achieved one of the top averages,” says Boisvert.

Born and raised in Grande Prairie, Boisvert started her degree at Grande Prairie Regional College before transferring to UofA a few years ago. The Governor General’s award is something she first became familiar with during her time in Grande Prairie.

“I actually received the Governor Generals bronze medal in high school for top academic of my high school at that level and so now having received the Governor General’s silver medal it’s just really a testament to my hard work and dedication to my education over the four years.”

Boisvert has been accepted into the Masters of Science and Physical Therapy program at UofA this fall. She is hoping to one day return to her home town as a physiotherapist.
