Outdoor rinks opening up in Grande Prairie

Almost all outdoor rinks in Grande Prairie should be open for the holiday season.

The rinks at Crystal Park, Swanavon, Alexander Forbes and École Montrose are all open and ready for hockey players with lights on until 10 p.m.

Hillside should be ready by Friday, and you’ll know when you see the hockey nets on the rink.

As for the skating-only rinks, the Muskoseepi Park skating pond opened Tuesday, while Parks Operations Outdoor Rink Coordinator Barb Welander says the small rinks at J.C. Mackie Park, Harry Balfour, Holy Cross, and Kateri School might be usable by next week.

However, I.V. Macklin needs some work done before any skates can hit the ice.

Updates can be found on the City’s website.
