Aquatera installs waterfall at Arbour Park in Sexsmith to honour former mayor

A waterfall has been added at Arbour Park in Sexsmith in honour of former Mayor Claude Lagace. Aquatera CFO Jeff Pieper says they wanted to add something to the park to commemorate all the work he says Lagace had put in since the town first signed on with Aquatera.

“We heard about Arbour Park and the memorial trees and thought we wanted to do something. We approached the town and they discussed that Claude had a vision with a water feature and water plays into Aquatera so we decided to go with that.”

The waterfall cost around $10,000 and was paid for by Aquatera (Emma Mason, MyGrandePrairieNow.com staff)

Lagace died on September 29, 2018 in Grande Prairie at the age of 66. He had served as the town’s mayor since 2010. Current Mayor Kate Potter said previously that this park was an important project to Lagace.

After finishing it, he planted a memorial tree there in honour of his father-in-law which now sits next to the tree the town planted in his honour.

Lagace’s daughter Laurie Olson says her family is overwhelmed by the recognition he’s received from the community he loved.

“It means a lot to us to see this park come together and it’s a beautiful space to remember him and to acknowledge everything that he’s done for the community and also how much love he had for the community the people that he worked with.”

The waterfall cost around $10,000 and was fully paid for by Aquatera.
