Province wide elm pruning ban now in effect

If you have any elm trees in your back yard you’ll have to avoid any pruning over the next few months.

The province has implemented a ban on the pruning or storing of elm tree wood until September 30.

Any elm tree would that has been stored should be burned or chipped as soon as possible to avoid attracting elm bark beetles, which are responsible for spreading dutch elm disease.

The beetles are also attracted to fresh wounds on elm trees.

Alberta has been free of Dutch Elm Disease since 1998.
