Senior baseball diamond replacing County rugby pitches

Nearly $89,000 will be spent to convert the rugby pitches at the Crosslink County Sportsplex into a senior baseball diamond.

The County of Grande Prairie has approved the switch, after it was found the the space wasn’t being used to its full potential. There has been more interest in the fields from slow pitch groups and senior baseball leagues than actual rugby teams.

The change will mean a new home for the Grande Prairie Brewers, as the men in the Wheatbelt League have been playing out of town in Rycroft and Grimshaw. Parks and Recreation Manager Megan Schur says construction should start soon, with the hope of it being playable in the 2015 season.
