Several local bars and restaurants have received their Best Bar None accreditation. The Best Bar None program is a voluntary accreditation program that focuses on best practices when it comes to customer safety and responsible liquor service, tools to be prepared for possible violent incidents, and building relationships with the community, businesses, enforcement agencies, and the government.
City of Grande Prairie Program Manager Michel Lefebvre says it is exciting to see new venues join the program this year and choose to make the improvements required to be an accredited facility.
“These safety practices for responsible service of alcohol are a great way for our local businesses to support community safety and ensure patrons consume responsibly, especially over the holiday season,” Lefebvre says.
Many of the venues also walked away with awards Tuesday night, with the Lion’s Den winning Best Bar, Howlers Lounge at Northwestern Polytechnic winning Best Campus Bar, Great Northern Casino winning Best Casino, and Boston Pizza Lounge on Westgate Drive winning Best Restaurant and Bar.
Two won Best Bar None’s People’s Choice Awards, as voted on by the Grande Prairie community. The Crown and Anchor Pub won the People’s Choice award for Best Food, while Diamonds Gentlemen’s Club won the People’s Choice Awards for Best Business, Best Staff, and Best Community Involvement.
The Best Bar None program is operated by Alberta Gaming Liquor and Cannabis in partnership with the City of Grande Prairie, the Grande Prairie Fire Department, and the Grande Prairie RCMP.
Alberta Gaming Liquor and Cannabis Chief Executive Officer Kandice Machado says they are proud of the continued work between businesses and the community of Grande Prairie when it comes to promoting and practicing safe alcohol consumption.
“These safety practices for responsible service of alcohol are a great way for our local businesses to support community safety and ensure patrons consume responsibly, especially over the holiday season.”
The program is celebrating nine years in the Grande Prairie area.
