The Grande Prairie Public Library is looking to keep local youth busy over spring break with its spring scavenger hunt. Head of Children’s Services Bailey Randolph says all families are invited to participate, with the idea being to keep children engaged and reading during their days off.
“We wanted to use the scavenger hunt as a way to kind of introduce kids to parts of the children’s department that they normally wouldn’t go to,” Randolph says. “So some younger kids might never have wandered over to the juvenile non-fiction section so it will be a good way to get kids used to the space and using the entire space.”
Randolph says when children and their families enter the library. there is a book with all the items they will need to look for listed in it. She adds the items included on the list are spring-themed and will be stuck to the walls or shelves throughout the children’s area.
“So we have butterflies, rainbows, bird nests, different kinds of flowers, things that we hope to see as the snow melts and spring comes.”
She adds anyone can participate in the scavenger hunt and the booklet does not need to be completed to be handed back in and entered for a Coles gift card and Grande Prairie Public Library swag bag. The scavenger hunt will run until April 16th.
