Four people are facing charges stemming from an investigation involving the use of bait vehicles and equipment. It began in May, following several complaints about break and enter and property crimes in the area of Woodland Cree Nation.
Working with the a Community Tripartite Agreement Unit, which has designated RCMP members in Indigenous communities, police got approval to place the “bait” vehicles and equipment in strategic locations through the region on July 6th. It only took a couple of days for them to move, and they were tracked to the home in Fairview.
A search warrant was executed and bait ATVs were allegedly recovered, along with what’s suspected to be meth. 31-year-old Katelynn Freeland and 33-year-old Joshua Lyons of Fairview have both been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
57-Gerald Lyons of Fairview and 27-year-old Madeline Pue of no fixed address were also charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, along with possession of meth. All have been released from custody to appear in court in Peace River on September 11th.
