Public Art finds place in Grande Prairie

The city is establishing a process that will better enable them to pay for and get a hold of art to be placed in public places around Grande Prairie. The city has established a Public Art Policy and Reserve. Community Living Director Gary Roth says City Council will now have the option to add funds to the Public Art Reserve during budget deliberations each year.

“Every year, council can consider putting a certain amount of money into the reserve and then as that reserve account grows it gives us the opportunity to use that for future purchases, and this way council can see that the funds are going straight to the reserve. ”

Roth says in the past there have been opportunities for the city to purchase public art, but there wasn’t an appropriate source of funding for it. This reserve will now allow City Council to make those purchases.
