PRSD Board of Trustees appoint new Acting Superintendent

The Peace River School Division’s Board of Trustees has announced the appointment of Dr. Jeff Thompson as Acting Superintendent effective November 16th.

Thompson currently serves as the PRSD Deputy Superintendent and has worked with the division in a number of roles since August 2017. His colleagues describe him as bringing a “wealth of experience” in the education sector.

“Dr. Thompson is known for his passion in the areas of teaching and learning, assessment, and student achievement,” PRSD Board Chair Crystal Owens says.

For the past three decades, Dr. Thompson has held a variety of leadership positions at the divisional level including his roles as Program Coordinator, Director of Teaching and Learning, Assistant Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent, and Superintendent of Schools.

Division officials say the position of Acting Superintendent was necessary following the resignation of previous PRSD Superintendent Adam Murray on September 6th, who is now pursuing a new opportunity north of 60 as Superintendent of the Yellowknife Catholic School Division in mid-November.

The PRSD Board of Trustees maintains that efforts to find a permanent replacement for Murray are underway.
