Local officials gather to mark continued partnership ahead of construction on Maskwa Medical Centre

Representatives from several municipalities, the healthcare sector, Northwestern Polytechnic, and the University of Alberta gathered at the future site of the Maskwa Medical Centre on October 24th to mark their partnership’s dedication to improving healthcare in the Peace Country.

The Maskwa Medical Centre will be built on vacant land near the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital and will include a medical training unit for soon-to-be doctors, a daycare and restaurant for hospital staff, and a more streamlined approach for patients who require specialists.

Maskwa officials hope the academic training clinic on the first floor of the facility will extend beyond education and help reduce hospital and emergency room visits altogether.

Maskwa Board Chairman Ken Drysdale says seeing everyone involved in the collaboration marks a “significant step forward” in advancing healthcare access for residents of Northwestern Alberta.

“By combining our strengths, we are ensuring that quality healthcare services are
available close to home,” he says.

The well-attended event saw more than 40 representatives from the Maskwa Medical Centre, AHS, local physicians, the City and County of Grande Prairie, the MD of Greenview, Saddle Hills County, and Clear Hills County.
