County of GP encourages community engagement on rural crime prevention

The County of Grande Prairie is encouraging residents to talk crime prevention at the local level as council continues working to advance prevention strategies in the community.

The 2024 Crime Prevention Survey is available for residents to share feedback with the county through providing local concerns, and shaping strategies tailored to meet the community’s needs.

County officials have also indicated their intention to host some County Town Halls on crime prevention to give residents the opportunity to engage the county in conversation.

This comes the same year as the county’s announcement of the creation of a new role within the Regional Enforcement Services department- the Community Safety Coordinator, which the county calls another enhancement that highlights council’s continued commitment to public safety.

According to the county, rural crime is a provincial government priority and an ongoing concern in the community. As a result, the county made the decision to form a dedicated crime prevention committee and will continue planning initiatives to combat rural crime head-on.
