Peace River apartment fire “not suspicious” in nature: RCMP

The Peace Regional RCMP has released an update regarding a recent call for service at a structure fire in downtown Peace River.

Police say on November 28th, at around 2:00 p.m., while attending another call to service, officers noticed a potential fire at an apartment building on 99th Street in Peace River.

The RCMP promptly requested the assistance of the Peace River Fire Department, while members of the community alerted 9-1-1 dispatchers of the blaze.

Law enforcement quickly gained entry into the building and say they immediately began knocking on doors in an attempt to warn residents who had not already started to begin making their way out of the building.

Following an investigation, the RCMP determined the fire was not suspicious in nature.

Some residents of the building were forced out of there homes, and the RCMP took a moment to thank the several community agencies that supported evacuees such as EMS, ATCO, the Town of Peace River, as well as numerous local businesses who brought food, water, coffee, and other supplies to emergency crews and displaced residents.
