PRSD appoints new Superintendent of Schools

The Peace River School Division has appointed Dr. Jeff Thompson as Superintendent of Schools.

This comes just over a month after Dr. Thompson was appointed to the position of Acting Superintendent of Schools on November 1st, following the departure of former PRSD Superintendent Adam Murray.

Thompson has dedicated his life to education for nearly four decades, serving in a variety of roles within six different school jurisdictions. Serving as a Superintendent is nothing new for Thompson either, taking on his first Assistant Superintendent job with the Labrador School Board in 1999.

Dr. Thompson began his career with the PRSD in 2017 as Director of Teaching and Learning, before taking the job as Assistant Superintendent, and finally as the Deputy Superintendent for the division for 2.5 years until his recent appointment in his new role.

His colleagues describe him as being a “lifelong learner” holding a PhD in Educational Leadership, along with a Master of Education and two Bachelor’s degrees in Science and Education respectively.

The new Superintendent says he is looking forward to the opportunity to help lead and implement the school board’s vision for the future of the PRSD in a leadership capacity.

“Within the operations domain, I am excited to continue working with all staff in all departments throughout the division to help ensure all children under our collective care have the best opportunities to reach their full potential,” he says.

Dr. Thompson mentions the division’s new Five-year Education Plan as providing direction and focus for all the priority work to be done in the future, and says he plans on working with his team to ensure success in the years to come.
