City of GP’s community sandbox program returns

The City of Grande Prairie is once again offering its free community sandbox to help residents keep their sidewalks and driveways safe during the cold season.

The box is located at the City Service Centre near the south end of 112th Street, and the city’s Transportation Director Wade Nellis says his team is glad to bring back the community sandbox for another winter.

“We appreciate residents’ efforts to clear their sidewalks and use sand to help improve accessibility and safety for everyone in the community,” he says.

Using the service is simple, residents can bring up to two five-gallon containers, suitable for transportation, to the City Service Centre, before collecting sand to use at home and on the sidewalk.

The service is free to use, and is available at all hours of the day; however, residents are required to bring their own shovel and bucket.
