GP Pickleball Club one of 12 organizations selected to split $4.2 million in provincial funding

The Grande Prairie Pickleball Club has been selected as one of 12 community groups splitting the Alberta Government’s $4.2 million Active Communities Initiative.

The province calls sport and recreation facilities the “heart” of communities around the province, that serve as places for residents of all ages to gather and build community while being active together.

In the first intake of the Active Communities Initiative, the Government of Alberta has committed $4.2 million to support the creation and revitalization of 12 facilities across the province. Alberta Minister of Tourism and Sport Joseph Schow says the initiative marks a commitment from the province to ensuring Albertans have access to up-to-date sport and recreation opportunities at the local level.

“Through this Initiative, we’re building healthier families and more resilient communities by helping create and improve spaces so that more Albertans can be more active more often,” he says.

The initiative marks the first time a provincial grant program has been solely dedicated to funding sport and recreation infrastructure.
